Need a new master cylinder

for a 1980 KZ750 LTD. I need to know exactly what bikes are interchangeable--Im still confused about all this interchangeability stuff...

I've been thinking about this one myself. I'd like to go with a remote reservoir so I don't have to worry about what bars it will work with. But I'm not real clear if they all use the same size banjo fittings or not. Or do I have to use the hose that came with the m/c and put in a line adapter or what?
And what does rotary m/c mean? And will a rotary properly actuate my stock calipers?

Most modern bikes use the 5/8 master cyl for the twin front brake setup. You can use ANY master cyl as long as its the 5/8 one. Today almost no one uses the 1/2 master cyl so you should be ok.

As far as lines, you do not need the get the line with the master cyl that you buy, although it would make like easier. I am using a ZRX master cyl and the stock lines for the kz650...no problem.

It would be best to find a master cylinder with a mirror mount on it, not all of them have it.

As far as rotary master cylinder, I think you probably mean a "radial" master cylinder.
I'm not aware of any reason a radial master cylinder wouldn't work on KZ calipers, but I haven't tried it yet (although I'm thinking about doing so).

So does that mean I could use a master off a bigger bike, like a 1000, or does the engine size make a difference?

Use one from any modern bike that you would like. As an added bonus modern sport bikes have the adjustable lever which is so nice.

Looking at www.kawasaki.com it appears that the 1980 750 LTD uses master cylinder part number 43015-1043. That site shows the same part number being used on the 1980 - 83 KZ550LTD (C1-C4), the KZ650 H1-H3, and the 1982 KZ750M1 CSR twin. Take a look at the site and check with a dealer to confirm as I might have misunderstood something. Ed

I just bought a pretty dope master cyl off this dude on eBay who sells them. usa-motorcycles-inc is the sellers name. $77 with shipping.
It has the banjo on he front of the m/c .. saves much space when your running low bars and the gauges are starting to get in the way. Funny thing is he sent me the wrong one, but it is better then the one i ordered. He was the one who felt bad about it. Nice guy!

I also ordered custom stainless brakelines with a light smoke tint cover from Old Bike Barn .. like a $150 and they are awesome looking. The guy who makes them even calls u up to get exact lengths and bends angles for the fittings. This is great too if your running low bars and have your calipers flipped from front to rear. Had them in a week 1/2!! You can get like 10 different color options on the line cover and a few color options on the fittings.
