All 77 KZ1000 riders! Aftermarket or real thing?

I need some help from '77 KZ1000 riders! I purchased a side cover for my '78 KZ1000 bike on E-bay and received the cover - as follows:

1) I assumed that the cover had the standard 3 plastic pegs attached to the cover, and then the mounting pegs are inserted into the mating gromments located on the cycle frame. This E-bay purchased cover had 3 access holes in the right locations on the cover, but for some type of (not supplied) stud(s) to go through the cover.

2) E-bay purchased cover had no part number molded into the inside of the cover.

3) Did '77 cover come complete with an emblem (with studs) for mounting to the side cover? Or was the factory '77 model / emblem attached to the cover with an adhesive? The E-bay cover received has no emblem, nor the 2 holes for mounting emblem (with studs).

I think the E-bay purchase is an aftermarket cover, as it is not what I was expecting to receive.

What is your opinion?

Sounds after market to me. I have a set of AM on mine. They attach with screws that go into a metal piece held in with rubber grommets.

go to www.redlinecycle.com and look at their covers....it sounds like the aftermarket piece they sell. I'm sure it's a decent cover but hopefully the seller didn't mislead you by describing it as oem and accepting oem prices. that's bs and fraud.

a lot of folks use aftermarket side covers as a daily thing to save on the real ones...since real ones can be quite expensive. only pull out the original ones for those "special occasions".

It's probably a Meier cover - they are molded without any of the mounting posts.

The stock side cover emblems had 2 studs on the back they match 2 holes in side cover with barrel clips or the little washer type clips to hold them on.the after market covers are good just use some nice looking bolts or screws to attach them.plus they are a lot cheaper to replace than originals.
