7 years old new tires. Say what? was created by SebRain77
Gotta question. bought this bike and has new tires. Well, new 7 years ago. the guy got a quarter of a season on them before he parked the bike. So the threads are like new. But, they seem a little dry. I'd be a little dry too if I didn't get any action in seven years, but that's not the point! Should I replace them? I'm affraid they are going to explode on me while riding.

BE AFRAID BE DEATHLY AFRAID,,  . Seriously, if there is ANY doubt in your mind change them, the last thing you want to do is be riding around with bad tires on your mind.
Ride safe.

my 76 kz had an OLD tire on the front. the previous owner never changed it so who knows how old it was. i looked it over, saw no cracks and left it on there. that was 3 years ago. the first thing a tire does is crack. if no cracks, start out slow and see how it works. at least in my humble opinion. good luck either way.

I agree with milkman that you should change your tire. It's for your peace of mind and we all need that when we ride.
I also agree with with arobsum. I have an old tire on the front of my bike, but it was not cracked and I gently put 200 miles on the bike around the neighborhood before it was street legal.
I still have that tire on today, 15,000 miles later, no problems and I'm not worried.

My 650b has a "new" Chen Shing tire on it that I can't find on the Web anywhere anymore. It's riding fine, but then I'm not a radical rider. It has a nice old style tread that seems to work well in gravel.

Do as you think best. Any tire can give out at any time due to any number of reasons.

"Assuming" you know that "Chen Shing" and "Hindu" are the respective Chinese and Indian words for "chicken shit."

I find nothing wrong with Cheng Shin tires. My rear tire lasted a long time, despite being told by some "know-it-all" in our riders group that the tire would self destruct in 5k miles if it didn't cause me to crash first. BAH! I replaced it 13,000 miles later when it was finally worn out with the same tire.

cheng shins are decent tires for the money. if you are an aggressive rider you might want to step up to dunlop or something. the last 4 tires i have bought for my last 3 bikes were cheng shins. no problems.:)

Be suprize of how many tires sit on the racks for years before you buy them. And I also have rode tires with plugs in them for years. Deep deep cracks or brick shape bald tires should be changed.
