tube size
09 Aug 2007 16:45
i recently bought a rear tire, sized 130/80-18.
the only tube i could find was a 140/90-18. i was wondering if this combo would work. i know going smaller overinflates the tube, but slightly larger?

I'll agree, some may go by the book on tubes, but the main thing you "may" run into when running too large tube is that it's easier to pinch when installing because of the excess rubber. I'll inject that my wifes Honda that uses a goofy 130/90-15 tube, twice I've tried to buy it and both times got a 130/90-16. Close the hell enough for me and worked fine.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

That tube will work just fine. When you install the tube inside the tire, inflate it just until the tube rounds out...just a few PSI. This will take out all the wrinkles, etc. Use powder on tube so it slides around easier also. Then work tire lip onto rim and if the tube has the nuts to tighten against rim, tighten them just enough to hold valve stem in place to secure tube stem upright. Then inflate tube to seat bead. Some guys use soapy water on rim and bead to help tire seat and I've heard some guys use WD-40 to do the same thing.
