I am trying to put a set of 76 900 LTD forks on a 75 z1. I notice that the axle wont play nice (its offset) and I guess I need one off a 76.

My questions are:

Does the new axle need to be a 76 900 LTD or will any 76 900 axle due?
Are there any other year axles that will fit?
Will I need new bearings also for the 75 wheel to go with the 76 axle?
Will the 76 axles speedo gear/drive match up to my 75?

And do any of you have these parts you want to sell before I start my eBay searching?

Thanks in advance -
Brian

If I'm not mistaken you can also use an axle from a KZ 650 from 77 to 80 and also the axle from a 76 to 79 KZ 750 twin should work as well. I'm a little confused by what you mean when you say your axle is off set.

Well on the left side the axle comes half-way into the bottom fork cup a few centimeters shy of flush. The other side it sticks out at about the same distance. Seems like it is the right length and just needs to be "pushed" in. The thing is, the speedo gear (which is fixed to the axle) is already up against the fork, so it isn't going any further.

Thanks for that info, I will do some searching on eBay. Couldn't find any 900 axles.

The speedo drive isn't part of the axle assembly. It maybe be stuck but it's not fixed. You should be able to free it and move it so that your axle is equal on both sides.

I put a Z-1 900 wheel on my 76 900 A-4 forks and I needed to machine about 3mm(ish) off the outside of the speedo drive to get the wheel to center in the forks.

Edit: The speedo drive different and wont interchange between the wide 6 bolt discs and the 4 bolt disc wheel.

Guys thank you both so much for the info!! Seriously! I feel some energy to go out there and get it off.

Now i got to find someone with a machine shop. The one guy i knew recently closed down. Or i guess i can tape some sandpaper down on a flat surface and sand that bad boy for a few hours! . hahaha ... this sounds so hack as i type it!!! :S :) I would probably sand it at an angle .. better not. D@mn i need a milling machine!! :P
