650C wheel fitted to kz1000a was created by MkII
looking for confirmation on anyone who has fit the 18" rear mag from a 77-78 650C onto a 77-78 kz1000a. I understand the bearings need to be changed as the 1000 axle is larger. any info on what else was needed other than stock spacers, ect. to make the swap work would be appreciated. thx

Dont forget not only the bearings but the spacer inbetween the bearings. Also if you have a rear disk the caliper carrire will need to be changes as well. I did the swap in reverse but so it was easier to size up than down.
ALso you may run into a problem with the swingarm, since the 650 uses the 17mm axle and the 1000 uses the 20mm axle, it may be too small in the swinarm, therefore you will need 650 chain adjusters to make sure the axle fits right.

once again the big bikes (900/1000) have 20mm axles vs the smaller bikes (650/750) which have 17mm axles. So having said that dont forget about the rear disk carrier has to be swapped (or entire rear caliper and holder) and all the wheel spacers. Oh and not to mention the axle adjusters may need to be swapped as well.

update....it will work. I was aware of the diff axle diameters between the two and first off I pulled measurements off of the wheel itself as compared to my MkII 18"er. both the same, so I just bolted the 650 wheel up using all the 650 hardware, axle, spacers, adj, ect onto my 1000 swingarm using the existing caliper and everything lines up fine. I have however sourced a like new MkII/Z1R 18"er and will be running it instead of the 650 mag on this bike as it has the lip type rim unlike the flat 650 style to match the front. I will need to have the spacers fabbed anyway to run either wheel as the ones from the spoked wheel won't work, at least the internal and rotor side don't. Interesting that the hub width between the 16" LTD vs. the 18" mag is .25" makes sense as the LTD is a wider rim and utilizes the same spacers as on the spoked wheel.

So the swap is easy with a bit of sourcing or fabbing up the MkII larger spacers to run the 650C wheel and of course the bearings. 2 of the spacers are approx .25" wider than those of a spoked or LTD mag wheel. the 650C wheel is the same dimension of a MkII wheel, uses the same exact cush/hub unit, actually the LTD, MKII and 650C is the same pn# on the hub so fully interchangable.
