18\" mag wheels optional? oem
29 Jul 2007 19:17
other than the MkII and Z1R did Kaw offer the 18" rear mag as an option at the time of purchase on the non-shaftie Kz1000? I'm having trouble sourcing this size mag for my bike, plenty of LTD wheels around. Just wondering why it's been seemingly difficult to find one of these.

What size do you need? I have an 18" rear mag for sale...

As far as I know you pretty much have it nailed down The Z-1R was the first 1000 to use an 18" mag wheel as well as the MK II. Both are pretty hard to lay your hands on. I believe Steell has said the KZ750 twin wheels will interchange with the 1000 but finding the optional mag wheel kits sold for them (made by Morris) is even harder to find. The only other 18" wheel I can think of that will possibly work would be one from a 650 C but I can't say for certain if these will fit. I seem to remember someone saying they used a smaller diameter rear axle. I'm sure somebody who has tried this will chime in here before too long.

Yes the 650 uses a smaller axle, you may be able to change bearings and make it work, I don't know.

The KZ750E uses an 18" rear wheel. I don't know the bearing/axle specs, but I am sure that is accessible here on this site, or at the Kawasaki site.
