Single to Dual Rotors - '76 KZ 900 was created by circusnuts
I see that my O.E. forks are drilled for a caliper on each (currently stock left hand rotor and caliper only).

Any advice on what is needed to convert to dual rotor front brakes?

TIA
Phil

I actually just came in from the garage doing the same thing. I got a 75z1. I bought a set of 76 LTD 900 front forks, calipers, splitter, and master cylinder off a guy on eBay. Then I just ordered another 6 hole rotor off eBay too. I needed the forks cause those calipers wouldn't match up on my forks and z1 right calipers are expensive.

In your case youll probably just need the right side caliper, rotor, a dual brake line splitter, another lower brake line, and possibly a master cyl that can handle the dual setup. I am sure someone on here know more then me about this. I am learning as I am going.

Good luck.

I did the same thing on my KZ900. There's one more difference you should consider. The stock master cylinder for a KZ900 has a diameter of 1/2" while the LTD used 5/8" master cylinder. I suppose that the 5/8" cylinder not only moves more fluid but it also gives the operator more feel. I chose to stick with the 1/2" cylinder and havn't had any problems.

Typically the next problem you'll run into will be an inability to bleed the system. Be patient, it can be done. Think about "speedbleeders" or using a hand held vacuum pump to draw out the air.

So...

1) as far as the caliper is considered I just need a right side from a 1976 900cc LTD or are there other years (or cc bikes) that match?

2) will the new right side rotor bolt to my stock hub 1976 KZ900 hub?

3) has anyone tried to install a newer master cylinder like a Brembo radial on these bikes?

Thanks again
Phil

honestly i am not 100% positive what fits what. I don't want to steer you in the wrong direction. I know some folks on here are way more knowledgeable about swapping parts then I am, but i am 90% sure that the LTD stuff would bolt on to yours.

As far as the rotor goes, just make sure they have the same bolt pattern. Mine is a 6 bolt. I assume yours may be a 4 bolt.

I was actually thinking about getting an aftermarket MC myself. I was looking for the ones with the remote MC cause I am having some clearence issues with my low bars and MC hitting my tach.

If you have the type of caliper that has the bleed nipple sitting in the center, it can be used on either side - you just remove the pads, push the piston back, remove the two long bolts, then slide out the caliper mounting bracket and flip it over to make it work on the right side. I can´t give you years or cc´s but I´m pretty sure that all calipers that have the bleed nipple sitting in the center are the same.

Yes, you just remove the "cup" on the right side of the hub, there are mounting holes for the rotor underneath it. Btw, left and right rotors are the same, a "left rotor" will work on the right side too.

I haven´t personally but I´ve seen it done.
