Here is the deal- I have an 82 750 Shaft drive bike with bent forks. I don't have any of those funky 82 forks with the Shrader valve air cross-over thingy. I have a set of KZ1000 forks though, in good shape. I want to put them on the KZ750. The axle diameter of the KZ1000 is bigger than the kz750 rim I need to use. The KZ1000 rime is spoked, the KZ750 is a mag- this prevents me from just using hte KZ1000 rim.

So, what to do, what to do- is it possible for me to swap out the bearings of the kz1000 and put them in the 750 rim with just the usual amount of cursing? B)

You could use a 650 mag wheel on the 1000 forks, but the brake disks wouldn't match visually.

I tried to do pretty much the same thing (GPz750 wheel on 750B forks, same as 1000 forks) and couldn't find any bearings that would work.

I did something similar a while back...Put a set of 79 forks on an 82 CSR 650. Not sure if this is what your dealing with but, my 79 forks had axle caps at the bottom and the 82 wheel had the long axle that sat in a tab behind the axle. I ended up having the 82 axle machined and threaded on the clamp end to fit the 79 axle cap, and had a new axle cap made for the other side. I used the 79 caliper and had to shim it out but it worked fine. (You will want to use grade 8 bolts here;-))
I think I still have teh CSR forks if they will help you. They are off an 82 650 CSR.

Damn- that is EXACTLY what I am trying to do- but it looks like I may have a line on some complete 81 air style forks- is this the type you have still as well? If so, I would just as soon give a member some of my money than an anonymous e-bayer!

Gee this is embarassing...I can't find the old forks.
I may have parted company with them on my last cleaning rant. Sorry.
