Lacing New Rims - '76 KZ 900
12 Jul 2007 11:21
I need to install new tires and was thinking now might be a good time to lace in wider rims... but I've never had a bike with spoke wheels.
Anyone know where I should start -- what vendors, tried and true fitments or gotchas?
Thank you!
Phil

It might be easier to swap for some later model KZ mags and give you the benefits of tubeless as well. I have an 18/18 set of mags but they are stock widths from the early 80's.

good place to start. ALso if you are going to get new rims you may want to concider getting a more modern size. Meaning either 17" rims or perhaps 18" this way yoru tire selction is much larger. ALso you could go up in width so you may run larger tires.

Spoke with Buchanan and I believe I'm looking to move to rims 4.25-18 in the rear and 3.50-19 in the front. I have located UK model Avon AM26 tires that would allow either 130/80 or 130/70-VR18 for the rear and 100/90 or 110/80-VR19 for the front.
I have 130/90-18 on rear and 100/90-19 currently on the bike.
I'm going to measure for fittment. Any gotchas?
TIA
Phil
