1000P wheel on Kz1000?

I purchased a wheel from a fellow member here and after being assured it will fit my 77Kz1000 it arrives and is a bit diff with no lip on the rim and 81 1000P written inside the rim area.... not even close to fitting, about 1/4" narrower than a Kz mag in the hub area. am I doing something wrong here or is this wheel not a simple bolt up aside from needing custom spacers fabbed up to align everything??
