Suggestions on where to buy Sprockets & Chain?
02 Jul 2007 11:20
Last night I pulled off my rear wheel to change out the tire and bearings. While I've got it off, I'm thinking about installing a larger rear sprocket, a new front sprocket and a new chain. It all depends how expensive it will be. (plus I would need to buy a chain breaker tool) So, are there any highly recommended online stores to buy these parts from? I assume my chain is a 530 size on my '81 KZ750 H2, right?

Nope, if the chain and sprockets are stock, then they are 630 size.
Do a search for "chain sprockets" on here and you'll probably see hundreds of posts saying "Z1 Enterprises".
I'd convert to a 530 though.

Go with the stock sprocket sizes first, then buy a few fronts. They are easier to change out.

So, why change from the stock 630 to a 530 size?

A much greater selection of chains, cheaper, and less mass, just to name a few reasons.
I don't think any decent 530 chain is going to have a problem with the 74-75 hp produced by a stock 750
Z1 Enterprises sprockets and chain
Stock front sprocket is a 14 tooth 630 (IIRC), and I don't think there is room for a larger one, another reason to go with 530, it gives you a larger selection.
I'm switching to 530 on my KZ750E1 project bike (moving slowly but it's getting there).
