Galaxian,

The 00-01 ZX9 and Zx12 rear rim is 6" wide.

I personally would try to get a 5.5" rim to fit the swingarm. ZX rims are known to be pretty wide through the hub area. You might have to machine off a good bit of material of the sprocket carrier to get the chain away from the frame and still might have to use a offset sprocket on the front.

My 1000 with a 4.5" rim uses a 5/8" offset front sprocket with no machining of the sprocket carrier.

Is your rear rim centered or offset to the right side? Just curious.

Doug,

my measurements tell me that a stock kz1000 has an offset of 3.5" (center of wheel to center of rear sprocket) the 1996 zx9 6" wheel has an offset of 4.5" (center of wheel to center of sprocket).

SO that means tha i have 1" or spacing to play with. My plan was to machine down the carrier by 3/8 and use a 5/8 offset front sprocket (thus equaling 1")

How i came up with this is by which offset sprocket is readily available and how much meat is on the carrier that i can machine. But you are right in that the 5.5 rim is way easier to deal with infact a gsxr 5.5 wheel will fit into the gs swingarm that i have now.

Now we are getting somewhere:P

it is offset alittle to the right

didnt really care how width the rim was... since this is the swingarm it gos with..i knew it would fit

Didn't you need to know the width (of the wheel and how much it is offset from stock) so you could identify and install the proper front offset sprocket?

That is the key that i am after that magic number of the offset on the front sprocket.

And if your wheel is offset to one side you didnt get it right. Your bike will handle awful in any direction other that straight. Now if drag racing is what you are after then maybe you could get away with that ( i have my doubts) other than that your bike will not turn to as well as it should.

If you dont agree with me that is cool these are just my thoughts on how to build a chassis properly and nice looking to boot!!;)

my disclaimer: By using word offset for the wheel i mean the measurement from center of wheel to center of sprocket. When i talk about front sprocket offset i am reffering to how much the sprocket is offset to the outside of the bike in inches ex. 5/8 of and inch. I dont want there to be any confusion as to the usage of the word "offset".
