Matching parts between models..? was created by slickware
I checked the kawasaki site, and just wanted a second opinion.
I'm trying to purchase a "muffler stay" (the frame fitting that the right footpeg, rear footpeg, and muffler, attach to)

Can anyone tell me for sure if the pieces from these two bikes are interchangeable? The part numbers are similar but have a different suffix... so confusing.

Different part numbers. Part # for the A was used exclusively on that model, same with the D. What the difference is is impossible to tell without sitting the 2 side by side.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

What a pain...
well, I hope they are interchangeable. I accidentally ordered the part for the A-1 model. Of course, they don't have any that were specifically for the D-1... at least not for less than $150.

Don't count out that part you ordered as not fitting because it has a diff part number.
Kawi may manufacture a specific part (A brake lever for instance) in black, but an exactely identical brake lever in silver will have a diff part number. Same thing goes for body parts with diff colors.
Example: ALL of the body parts from the '77~79 KZ650 B and C models are interchangeable through those years, regardless of color and difference in part numbers.

Don't throw in the towel yet, there's always hope. :)
