Tach cable- to lube or not to lube?

I managed to break a tach cable on my '78 KZ-650B by kinking the cable. I have a new one on order from Dennis Kirk.

Once I get it, should I just put it on the bike or should I take the opportunity to lube it? If the later, what's best to use on it? I have everything from white grease to graphic to Lubriplate. Or is there something else recommended for this?

I use oil. I mean regular old oil.
Oh sure, I have the fancy cable luber doo-hickey and the sprays to match, bu when I have a cable that is not yet installed and I can get at it that easily, nothing beats oil.

I've been using white grease for almost 30 years with great results.
