Belt Alignment
30 May 2007 18:05
I am having trouble getting the belt to track straight on my 440. If I adjust the back wheel so the alignment marks are even the belt pulls to the outside of the pulley and squeaks when I rotate the tire by hand. When I get the belt to track straight the rear wheel is clearly out of alignment. So is there a easy way to get this right? Do I have to shim the drive pulley to align the belt? Unless the rear wheel is askew to the centerline of the bike the belt pulls ot the outside.
If I knew what I was doing all the time life wouldn't be any fun.

check your swingarm bearings for slop that could be letting things out of square.i dont trust the stock adjustment marks, use a straight line to align wheels;)

If it has axle spacers check out. sounds like wheel is spaced too far to right.

I was kinda thinking the same thing. So what is the best way to correct that? Machine the right side spacer down and put a washer on the left?

I would determine which way the wheel may be out of line, IE: right or left (facing toward front of bike) and then reduce the space. As I said, it would appear that the wheel may be too far to the right. If so, reduce the space on the left and add to the space on the right.
Make sure that the drive pully is all the way on the output shaft.
