removing drive sprocket

well its time to change the chain for the first time since I bought it, I have the rear sprocket changed but I can't seem to get the drive sprocket bolt loose. I bent the tabs out of the way and it still won't budge. I had to put the new chain on to keep the engine from just turning over but I still have no luck. is this a reverse thread or something? I am turning it counter clockwise,

Get some one to hold the rear brake for you. I generally use a impact to remove mine. Before i had a impact i used a 4lb. hammer and a greaker bar.

The main thing is to keep the sprocket from turning. Jamming in newspaper folded multiple times between the teeth of the sprocket and the chain is usually good enough to keep the chain from rolling around the sprocket, then get your socket on the nut and use a long pipe on your ratchet to get you the necessary 4 gazillion ft/lbs of leverage to loosen the nut. The nut is conventional right hand thread, just tight.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

Yupp, Ron is right. A breaker bar with a pipe is the best way to get that sucker off. Just be careful. When that thing comes lose, you may go flying.
