I'm assuming (yeh I know what that means) that your 77 1000 is like my 73 Z1 in the way the front brake calipher works. I took mine apart and went to a seal/o'ring dealer, found some that fit close enough and put them in. Thats about all that needs to be replaced in the piston is good. Be sure to take your old o'ring (note it is really a square ring ie: has flat sides on it) with you to match. TFH

The 77 has a different front piston seal. I think the z1r, 650c1, 650d1 are the only bikes that have this particular seal. Hard to find except through a KAW dealer.

Sweet mother of potatoes how did you find an o-ring dealer? I've seen generic assortments at Pep Boys, but there have been things I was unable to find due to unusual size or shape. The local hardware stores have been overtaken by Home Depot, where the sales people don't seem to understand the desire to buy an o-ring that's not part of a faucet repair kit.

How did you manage to find a place with a nice assortment?

Just a note-the seals are smaller on the LTD front calipers. I spent weeks figuring that one out last year.

K&L doesn't sell them for this application...

What we've done for customers is order the unique parts from Kawasaki and couple them with an other kit that has the rest of the parts - it makes it a little expensive, but you can rebuild the calipers.

Brake parts are fast becoming a major problem with the KZ range - more and more of the parts are not being produced. Already you can't get master cylinder rebuild kits for the KZ1000-D1 & D3 front brake, the KZ1000-A4 rear brake, some of the KZ650 rear brakes, some of the ZX750 brakes... I'm talking about not available from Kawasaki or aftermarket...

I live near Houston and was in town and found it. I'll have to look for the invoice or check stub to get the name for you, may take me a couple of days as I won't be home much till after New Years. TFH

Jeff, I see on your site you list the front pistons for the B1. Are these still available?

tfh903 --

That's neat. Too bad they don't sell online. Although I'm sure the markup and shipping would be *horrible* compared to the cost of buying at a brick-and-mortar storefront, it would be neat to be able to track down the occasional strange ring. Although they do have email contact info, so I'm sure something could be arranged in a pinch.

Thanks for the response!
