Just followed the Shindy link and liked what I saw...but what I didn't see was any prices:) So, just how scary can Shindy prices be?

Nope. That kit is for the B1 model, which has a round master cylinder.. If you have a true 78 B2 model, and it seems you do because the cylinder you show is trapezoid, that kit from Z1 won't work.

That says it is for the 5/8" cylinder. If you look on the bottom of your master cylinder, at least on mine, is the number "14" cast into it. I think that implies our trapezoid cylinder is 14mm, single disk. A 5/8" cylinder is just a hair under 16mm.

About $150.00 for what I have. The radials are much higher. They are sold thru parts-unlimited. You can get pricing thru their online catalog. Nice thing about the Shindy or magura, rebuild kits and parts are available. The Ebay one I didn't see anything listing replacement parts or could I find an exact manufacturer.

Oops. My bad. I saw "'78 B2" and I was thinking KZ1000, like mine. When I saw you mention "single disk", I knew we were talking apples and oranges. Sorry.

Regarding 14mm trapazoidal master cylinder piston ---
Trapazoidal front master cylinder was introduced in 1978 on single front disc KZ1000-A2. It was the only year for the 14mm, and was increased to 5/8" in 1979 (KZ1000-A3) and thereafter for use with the dual front disc models.
The 14mm piston size does not appear on my local dealer's microfish and his best guess order as shown resulted in a 5/8" piston way too large to fit. Thanks to Jeff at Z1E who furnished the correct part number for the 14mm piston, which I obtained last year through the dealer. Don't have the Kaw part # handy, but will be glad to post it if needed.
The trapazoidal 14mm items are available at Redline
Redline
Here's the hard to find o-ring seal between reservoir and base

If needed, here are the rubber diaphram and other reservoir items (which I believe are common to both 14mm and 5/8" sizes)

And here is the elusive 14mm piston (last year's priced was par with dealer)
14mm m/c piston

Mine just arrived today. It's for the ex500 front end that I'm putting on my bike.
Looks decent for the price. This one was only 29.99 + shipping.

I thought the trapezoid style was only 14mm. I really don't know what to tell you now. I would pull it apart, clean it, and compare it to the pictures on the Redline page we posted. If the bore is 5/8" you should have no problem using it with dual discs.
