Mechanical speedo on newer front end

Hi,

Is there a way to make the mechanical kz900 speedo work with newer front end conversion( ex: gsxr1000 2001) which has no speedo drive ? If not which years ( gsxr,zx) should i look for that would accept the mechanical speedo option ( i prefer the look of the standard kz speedo/tach).

Thanks.

Hey,

I'm currently working on installing a '95 Gsxr750w front rim in a 2001 Gsxr600 front end. I went with the older rim because it has the provisions for a speedo drive. I know I have at least two problems to overcome.
1) The 600 uses a bigger axle than the 750 rim.
I'm gonna have to have an axle made because the speedo drive has to use the smaller axle. Swapping bearings in the wheel won't solve anything.

2) Both rims use different size brake rotors.
The 750 uses a 310 and the 600 uses a 320. Plus the 750 has an offset compared to the flat 600 rim.
I bought some of the last oversized race rotors from EBC for the 750 rim. The rotors have the right offset for the rim but are the right size to use in the 600 forks.

There are other options but this is the route I went with.

Thanks Doug,

Then i will let go of the 01 gsx-r 1100 front end and i'll try to find one between 92-95, i think theses years do carry the speedo drive with inverted forks.

Regards and good luck with your project.
