What's the difference between B and C model Calipers?

For my project I switched the forks and I'm not 100% sure what forks I have. Is there any difference between calipers? I found a caliper on ebay and the seller states its from a kz650C model.

The forks are 36mm, approx 30 inches, with axle at the bottom. They have caliper mounts on each leg, however I'm just going to use the left side.

Wow, That's a tall order. Can you post some pics of the forks you are using along with as many numbers you can find on them?

I do not think there is much difference in calipers, they take the same brake pads.
BUT on my B1, from the caliper it has a metal brake line with a fitting running back to another fitting which attaches to the standard rubber brake line. Not absolutely positve about the fitting being the same size as a banjo bolt...90% sure though.
The C1 has just the standard rubber brake line with the banjo bolts.

Just for info:
The 1997 B1 calipers was used on:

· H1 Mach III (1969)-->FRONT BRAKE (KH500-A8)
· H1-A (1970)-->FRONT BRAKE (KH500-A8)

If we are talking about the 650 model, 1976 was the introductory year of the Kz650 B model and it had the front brake caliper to the front of the fork. This was the single disk set up.

For 1977, The Custom C model had twin discs on the front and they were moved to the back side of the forks. I don't know if they can be swapped. Perhaps rstnick could chime in on this as he is very good information source on the various changes to the Kz650 throughout the years.

Hope this helps.

Mostly what I'm looking for is what calipers will bolt up to the forks, as the calipers that came off the bike had a different mounting configuration than the new forks. I'm not so worried about the lines and MC as these will both be custom. I'll snap some pics of the bottom of the forks when I get home tonight.

Just to clarify, although there are numerous "1976" KZ650s sold, they weren't released until the 1977 model officially. In the first year (1977) KZ650B had a single caliper in front of the fork leg. This is the old school system used on the old H1 ect. All KZ650C, even the 1977 models had dual calipers mounted behind the legs. This was the newer caliper setup used on the KZ1000s ect. These 2 calipers are different and won't interchange although they use the same pads.

Ron,

Is there a difference on where the bleed screw is located?

Yep.

I looked at my bikes when I got home last night.
The B model has the bleed screw directly in front of where the banjo bolt goes on the caliper and the C model has the bleed screw off to one side of the banjo bolt.
So if you used a B model caliper, behind the fork, the bleed screw would not be in an upright position to let all the air out of the caliper when you set it up.

Mariopazza, Im not sure where you got your findings from. But the H-1 didn't get a front disc brake till the intro of the orange 72 H-1C model. The 69,70 and 71 had the drum brakes that were slotted for air cooling. Wayne

Interesting, I like to use powersportspro.com . Its just like buykawasaki but with the price list. I was just looking at buykawasaki and they show two different part numbers for the B-1 and B-2 caliper assembly for 77. Wayne
