Rear Brakes
09 May 2007 05:32
I am sure this is stupid easy and i am just missing something, but i have ot push my brake pedal about eight inches down to get it to grab and thats way to far to do with your foot on the peg. How do you adjust the rear brake so it starts to grab as soon as you press on the pedal? I have a 1982 KZ550 LTD with a drum. Thanks

look back by the rear wheel and on the right side you will see a rod that moves when you push the brake pedal. on the end is a nut, turn it clockwise to tighten up the brake. do not go too far or the brake will drag

Also check to see if the "cam" (the thing the rear arm attaches to on the rear drum) has a dot pressed on it. Normally this corresponds to a position on the arm so everything lines up. Sometimes the arm has a mark and sometimes the opening where the bolt runs through is suppose to line up.
Maybe someone here with a drum rear brake setup can help. Or has a pic?
