Help with tank ID?
16 Dec 2005 06:35
Folks, I got a tank with my KZ1000E ST project that doesn't fit the ST. The welded on metal cups that go over the rubber dampeners on the frame to hold the tank in place are in the wrong place meaning the tank isn't meant for an ST. It also isn't meant for a KZ900 frame for the same reason. Please help me ID the tank! It is from the 80s likely as it has a locking square gas cap, same as the ST that ANY key can fit and a gas guage sending gizmo on the bottom. It has a vacuum actuated petcock as well... [file]

WG. Is there a raised center portion on the top of the tank that blends in as you move posteriorly on the tank?

No there isn't... it is smooth going back to the rear form the cap.

WG, I also (similar to wireguy) go with the K or M model 1000's. Since any key opens the gascap, it is a pre-1983, the round gas gauge cover suggests either the 1981/2 KZ1000LTD (K) or KZ1000CSR (M). Same tank for both.

The black looks original. Does the 82 LTD come in black?

Yes, but I suspect it is a repaint. The original M and K models all had pinstriping of some sort.
