78 SR Headlight Mounting

can someone tell me if the headlight bracket is supposed to go behind the fork legs at the top, i am thinking it must, but i changed the bars and a bunch of other things up there and she isnt fitting unless i run the upper forks through the bracket

didnt the sr have a headlight bracket like the ltds that mounted under top triple tree?

that sort of helps, does anyone have a close up of the bracket? It just isnt fitting in there... may need some chopping to work with my bars I guess
