Has anyone every had their brake rotors turned down?
1977 KZ650C1, Kerker Header, Dyna ignition and coils, GPZ 750 oil pan and cooler

Let'Roll, most machine shops will do it. I've had several skimmed. It is expensive.

If you get them done have the outside peripheral skimmed as well, purely for aesthetics. Also a slight chamfer (just to break the sharp edge).

For those with Z1 series (maybe others). You may think you have caught a stone or something in the caliper to a gouge a groove in the rotor. Have a check of one of the caliper retaining bolt, it is probably just prodruding, enought to scar the surface.

The local bike shops around here that will do it charge about $50 and new rotors cost $80 on up so it's probably more feasable to buy a new rotor unless you're really on a tight budget or you can get it done much cheaper...

Instead of turning rotors on a brake lathe I've had excellent success having them resurfaced. Take them to an engine machine shop and ask them to re-finish them on a flywheel refacer, making sure the thickness stays uniform. It takes off only a few thou of material, leaving a nicer finish without chattering, eliminates the phonograph record groove effect, takes out the hard spots better, and gives you really smoooooooth braking for about $20 - $30 a rotor :)

there used to be shop here in omaha that did them but they went out of business,now the places that do them want to seperate the rotor from the carrier and bolt them back together!can anyone do them without seperating them?
