Longer swingarm
15 Apr 2007 03:41
I'm considering a longer dragbike style swingarm for my '78 Z1-R. Any recommendations? Modifying a stock one or adding one from another make/ model? Any pics or links would be appreciated!! TIA.

The stock one is pretty bendy so lengthening it is just going to make it even weaker. I'm not sure about the Z1R but on my 750 all the modern Suzuki arms will fit - GSXR600/750/1000/Busa etc - and can be easily extended either with welded in drag slots or with bolt on extensions. Here it is with a GSXR750 arm fitted. Later on I swapped it for a 600 arm which is similar but unbraced and had it extended 5".

Thanks Lorcan. I thought I'd seen some pics of Z1-R's with extended swingarms on this forum before... Probably were using Suzuki parts, just not sure which ones and/ or what the extensions were. Any help is much appreciated!

the z1r is a dual shock setup correct? unless you are doing a mono conversion, I would recommend the boxed aluminum gs1100 swingarm. it is a couple inches longer than stock already, and it is pretty stout if you want to extend it further. wireman is doing this on his turbo bike

I'm picking up another arm for my 750 at the end of the week, this will be it's sixth arm, including the original! This one is 13" over, making the bike 68" wheelbase, the maximum allowed in our superstreetbike class (not that it would ever be competitive in that class but hey). I'll post some pics when it's slotted in. It's getting the one piece fibreglass body off my old bike too which has an extended tailpiece to suit the longer arm.
