530 sprocket and chain was created by harm
Does anyone know where i could find out what the pitch size is for a 530 chain? I need very accurate numbers because i am going to make my own custom rear sprocket for my kz550.

Thanks,

I'm just curious. Why are you making your own sprocket? Is there a performance benefit, looks, etc..

No perfomance difference from anything i can buy. Mostly looks but also the fun of making my own. I am going to use 7075 aluminum and put a custom design on it. First i need to design it with my CAD software at work and then machine it!

Hey Fish, Where did you find that info? Is there a web site out there that i can look up? How does 530 relate to 5/8? I would think the pitch would be a metric measurement.

Thanks,

Tom

Nope. 530 is best read 5/3.0
the first diugit represents pitch in 1/8ths of an inch, the second group of digits represent nominal roller width, so a 530 is 5/8ths pitch, 3/8ths roller width.
A 525 would be 5/8ths pitch, and 2.5/8ths wide on the rollers, or 5/16ths.

Hey Tom...if You're designing something bike related, and not telling Us all the details,or offering Us a piece of the action??...it COULD get ugly around here,Bud!

It would be really cool if members started designing some real neat products for our bikes that aren't available on the general market and marketing them exclusively here.

As some of the younger kids would say, that would be the shiznit. :P
