Tire size
07 Apr 2007 08:06
Hi everyone,
Does anyone know what is the widest rear tire I can fit on my 1982 KZ550 a3?
I have a 110/90-18 on it now and would like to go wider.

I have a 130 on my 1000 but it might be a different size rim. Your rear wheel sounds like my front wheel except mine is 19", sad for you bud

Can you measure the clearance on both sides? A 130/90 would be 20mm wider, of course, so you'd need 10mm clearance on both sides of the swing arm. Aspect ratio will play a role also, so you'd have to be careful that you had plenty of fender clearance. Let me know what you get with your measurements; I have a friend with an '82 KZ A3.

Stock is a 3.75-18 which is a pretty small 18". I can all but guarantee you won't fit any 130 on there or most 120 series. Like I've said before every tire brand is different, asking what size will fit really can't be answered because brand "A" 120 may not fit, where brand "B" 120 fit's just fine. I'd put a 4.00-18 on there or a 120/90-18 but some may fit, some not. Years ago I could run a Pirelli 130/90-18 easy on a KZ650, but a Dunlop 120/90-18 K591 is a bigger tire than the 130 Pirelli and rubs the chain guard.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.
