New Rear Shocks Recommendations?

Hey Gang - Time to put some new shocks on my 650 and would like some suggestions.

I tend to ride alone and weigh 180 lbs. The only passenger brave enough to hop on the back seat is my son who weighs around 90 lbs. I tend to only drive around town with only the rare, short highway trip.

So what types of shocks should I be looking at? I would prefer a stock-looking, chrome shock to keep up with my sleeper look.

I am waiting on a pair of HD shocks I won on EBay. Going to slap them on my 1000 P, I'll let you know how I like them.

I scored a pair of new take-offs from an 02' Sportster 1200.
They're 13.75 inches eye to eye.

I have them on the softest of the 3 settings and they are still on the firm side.
But then again, I'm comparing them to the original shocks that would bottom out most of the time. They are world's better than what was on my bike. Especially for the $30 I gave for them!

I'm around 210lbs

I use Koni shocks on my '77 Z1000A1, and they are great. They have been a standard replacement in Europe since the seventies. An exact replica is made under the brand name Ikon. They are vintage-looking and kind-of affordable. Hagon shocks have a good reputation. You can even get these with the chrome caps for the real period-look. I believe they are also cheaper than the Ikons.

Bike On With Ikon...good recommendation!

I like the vintage Koni shocks also.

The 76 series pre-dates the 7610 series (Dial-a-Rides).

7610's are great and can be rebuilt (did a pair last year). There are 5 spring preload settings and 4 dial adjustable damping settings. They were originally made in Holland and IKONs come from Australia now. Koni USA doesn't even admit they ever made motorcycle shocks nowadays if you call them on the phone for example...ask me how I know. I can wholeheartedly recommend IKON Australia, as they are top notch folks. You can buy direct from them or find a US dealer.

Good call Rick.

Quite a few people swear by Progressive Suspension too.

Then there's Works Suspension.

Don't forget the Son's of Metric Thunder.

I've posted this before, but Koni rebuild kits are available from these folks who are down the road from me.

Enjoy!
