Anyone got some used tires for a kz900?

Hey folks! Hoping someone can help me out. Looking for some used or otherwise very cheap tires for my 76 KZ900 that I'm bringing back from the dead. I'm on a very limited budget.

Thanks!

Matt

Hey there - and welcome to the site.... ;)

In the interest of efficiency, I'm combining this reply with your introductory effort elsewhere. Self-deprecating humor? You'll fit right in - your victimization has only begun.

As to used skins, while I understand your desire to get rubber on the road as economically as possible, I gotta question the practicality - and risks assumed by going at the problem that way.

Used tires - especially motorcycle tires, that might still be called tires because they're made of what used to be rubber and might even be nearly round if you knock the square edges off - tend to get whooped as bad as a pair of moldy sweat socks by the original owner.

While you might get a set of has been-tires for next to nothing, you'll get exactly what you're paying for. The question becomes - and should probably be on that A&P test: "Do you *really* want to do that?"

Especially - when for not all that much more money - often less that $50 per, there's scads of Taiwanese/Korean/Chinese soft compound meats available that may not have the best wear ratings, but they're remarkably good for the price.

Just a suggestion - but I'd think one worth considering...

You are absolutely right. I just thought maybe someone out there decided to upgrade their tires and has a good used set lying around. A guy can wish, can't he? Part of my impatience comes from the fact that I don't have a rideable bike at the moment, and the weather here is perfect for riding now!

I'm by no means a speed demon... I think my riding style falls in the "great-grandmother" category, so a cheap set of tires would do fine.

I appreciate the hello and the reality check. If I come across some used tires, I'll do my best to put on my A&P hat and inspect them for safety. :cheer:

Cheers!

Matt

After reading all this, I have a used Bridgestone Spitfire front tire. It has some weather checking on the sidewall, but I think it's good for another season. Never punctured. You can have it for postage if you want it.

I don't have a tire for you but the JC Whitney tire I bought was a ChengShin Hi Maxx. It's on the rear and has given my 650 11,000 trouble free miles and probably has a few thousand left in it. They're not bad tires for us "Grandma's"

Also check into some Kenda tires. They make some noce tires, especially the Challenger. They're not too expensive either.

Thanks for the advice everyone. And ltdrider, thanks for the offer of the spitfire. I think I'm just gonna have to save a few pennies or have a garage sale and get some new rubber.

Cheers!

I second the Kenda nod - I've got a set of the sport variety of Challenger, and am very happy with them.
