The master cylinder is from a 78-79 also.
Look at the left side engine cover, if there are three bolts in a circle on the alternator part of the cover, then it's a 76-77, if not then it's probably a 78.

Or just post the manufactured date off the sticker behind the headlight on the headstock.

It does make a difference as to whether it's a 76-77 or 78-79, the fork tubes on the 76-77 are shorter than the 78-79, 23" for the 76-77 vs 24" for the 78-79.

Ok guys here is some more info... I don't know about the slug part or not. I will go look. The title says its a 78, the tag says it was manufactured in 8/77. Caffcruiser, I might take you up on your offer if the shipping is reasonable to Minnesota, 55927. I have been buying bikes and fixing them up and selling them on ebay. I think I paid top dollar for it in the condition that it is in. I paid $250 for it. It needs a lot of parts: forks, wheels (rusty), tires, bars (Obviously!), pipes, and a rectifier. So why did I buy it? Cause I have one just like it that is nice and couldn't pass it up. The seat, tank, side covers, lights, etc. are too good to let go. Plus an extra engine and carbs never hurts. I am trying to figure out if I want to part out, or fix it up. I could have as much in it as its worth when I'm done however. It has 11,000 miles and a clear title. Maybe a street tracker would be fun. ;) I love the orange one in the gallery. Then I could save the seat, tail, and side covers for my other bike...

Back to the fork issue. All I have is a set of KZ400 forks and a set of 78 Honda CB750 forks.

Ok, you have a 78 model.
77-79 KZ1000 forks and/or upper tubes are the same.
I think 78-79 KZ650 reg/rec is the same (been awhile since I researched that).

KZ1000 77-79 front and rear wheel fit, as does the front wheel off a 77-80 KZ650 (but not the rear).

As for pipes, MAC or Dunstall Decibel replica mufflers on stock head pipes.

You have another 78-79 750 twin?

You guys are great. Yeah I have another 750 twin! I just rode it today. Awesome! It is 70 degrees in Minnesota today! That first ride of the season leaves a long lasting grin doesn't it? B) Check out the gallery. I just added my other bike. It was nice enough out today to get some good pictures. I also have A KZ750 four, and two KZ400's. Take care.

Well I got the red one running today. It had no spark. Whatdayaknow... the guy put the battery in backwards! No wonder some of the wires are fried. Flipped it around and it started right up! Runs like a top. Within 1 minute the choke was all the way off and it was idling perfect. I can hardly believe it. Now I may just have to fix it all up instead of parting it out.

Ok guys... How do I tell if it has slugs? I cannot see a seam anywhere... Do I have to remove the forks to really tell what I have? Thanks.

You would have to have a look under the fork covers/headlight mounts. Or, it could be as simple as remove one fork cap and there's a chance if it is a slug, it isn't chromed.
