I have a 1980 Z1R 1000 with original mag wheels. I want to change them to spoke wheels. How do I find the hubs for my triple disks? Do I have to find spokes from an earlier model? Aaron from California

77-78 kz1000 would be your easiest route that way you get a matching front and rear hub;)

DrZ's Z1Rs is proof how good they look.
hubs from a 77 KZ1000 might work, and a set of achront alloy rims with stainless spokes would finish it nicely,
work out what tyres you'd like to run then choose the rim sizes to suit

jimmybon spot on !!!!

80z1r,

For your information, wheels are 18 x 3" Akront (rear),
and Akront 18 x 2.15 front, tyres going on it at the next change are Bridgestone BT45's, 140/70 rear and 110/80 front.

Hubs are from a '77 from memory (they have been on for 26yrs) discs go straight on.

Your will need to re drill your mudguard/fender holes a bit lower to make it look neater.

The 140 tyre will also fit in the standard swingarm with a bit to spare but you will need to take a little cut out of your chainguard for clearance, no need for spacers on your front sprocket required.

I deliberately went down to an 18 on the front to speed up the steering a little as I considered the 19 just a little slow. Your choice. PM me if you have any questions.

jimmybon, if you are travelling down past the 'Gong, pm me and drop in for a coffee.

Regards,
Tony.
