allright you guys with the 17" wheels ,whats a good combination for a bike that will spend most of its time cruising in a straight line with occasional trip down the interstate ,but no serious canyon carving i just want to be able to lay into a corner without having to fight mismatched tire sizes.im planning on using a shinko 190/17 on rear APE doesnt show a sidewall ratio for it though.i was thinking a 120/17 on front but unsure about aspect ratio to run  everything ive always run had a 19" front wheel and an 18 or 16" rear wheel, except my 1100 suzuki year ago so this is new ground for me guys, help! ;)oh yeah im guessing i need a 6" rear wheel for the 190,but what should i run for the 120?

The shafty I own has a 17" rear wheel. I THINK it is 3 1/2" wide but darned if I would want to swear to it. I use a 130/90-17 on the rear and use Dunlop 404s which are fine tires for a heavier bike... decent handling and good wear at a reasonable price. I use Cheng Shin Hi-Maxes on my other KZs which are generally lighter 900s and those are OK but I doubt they would hold up on the heavier shafty too well.

How about you tell us what your wheel measurements are and we can pick tires based on those. ;)

That makes a lot more sense. :)

FWIW: I've got custom 40 spokes on my bike I'm building, 17x3.5 and 17x5.

I'm running a Michelin Pilot Sport 120/70 on the front and Michelin Pilot Road 170/60 on the rear.

Putting a ROAD on the rear won't decrease your ability to ride hard.... it's just a longer lasting compound for street riding.

But yeah, the 120/170 combo runs REALLY well because the rear end won't overpower the front end in a corner and cause iffy handling..... whereas the 190 will. ;)

***That selection was made based on advice from a few different classic Guzzi and Ducati race guys who always swore by the 120/170 combo for performance.

i havent ordered the rims yet ,i wanted to make sure what i needed to fit that 190 on the back before i ordered them.ive always run 3.5" back rims but ive never gone over 150 for a tire though.i dont think a 170 rear tire will hold when i hit the switch on this project i wanted to try a 180 but shinkos come in 190 and 200 so i figured id try the 190.ive got 8 plus inches of clearance in the narrowest part of swingarm so anything less than a 180 is gonna look strange in there im thinking,im gonna go look at a zx-14 and a busa to compare wheel sizes:evil:

will a ZX12R work for a comparison?
rear wheel=17x6 (will be ordering a shinko ultra soft)
front wheel=17x3.5 has a 120/70ZR17(58W) Dunlop
I hear Pilot Powers are great tires, and Avon Storms, and if the front isnt low enough try a 120/60
