I have reason to believe that I'd like to take apart my forks and clean the internals. How likely is it that I'll ruin my seals, or find out that they need replacing, even though i don't see any leakage or excessive oil on my tubes?

No reason to clean the internals.
You will want to check the fork oil level, and change it if it hasn't been done in the last few years. It is an easy procedure.

Do you have a service manual? It will give you step by step procedures for everything.

Really? They wont get too fouled from being put aside? These are forks I bought off a parts guy, lord knows when they were last on a bike.

But I believe you, and yes I've got a manual, I'll change it when i get a chance.

If you're wondering why I'm all over the place, I tore her down to the bare frame and rebuilt her last summer, replacing a lot as i went, rode her perhaps 100km since and I'm trying to work out some of the kinks before spring, theres lots. Thanks for all the help though!
