Spectre forks
04 Mar 2007 14:17
I had the bike out today, the front end is really diving when I put on the brakes, saw a small amount of oil on the forks so they obviously are leaking. How difficult a job would it be for me to take care of this myself, assuming it is just leaking seals and nothing more? This is my first bike, I've never done this before.

Hey Colorado! I am about to do mine on my 1000. I never did forks before but I helped this technician once when he was doing someones forks. Maybe both of us can knock heads on this together when you are ready. Get your seals and oil!

Hi Scott,
Do you have a manual? If not buy or borrow one. Is there any pitting or rust on the portions of the fork tubes that the seals slide over? You'll likely need a pneumatic impact wrench to separate the fork sliders from the internal damper rod. Beyond these it's not difficult at all. You'll need a little more help but you can do it.

I have the manual in pdf format. I haven't noticed any rust, but will have to look closer to make sure.
I did find this link:
