Tires - Specs and recommendations? was created by kc5deb
I'm looking to put new shoes on my 79 kz650.
The person I purchased it from, told me he put a larger sized tire on the rear, so, now I'm not sure what the factory tire size was/is supposed to be.
And what brand is recommended?
Any particular site you guys get your tires from?

It's been a little while since I've purchased. I think I remember
www.ronayers.com
being good source and value.
As far as brands go, if your going with a tube type of tire I have been very happy with my Dunlop GT501's .
Sorry I can't help out with your tire size.
Someone will chime in thought with some good info.

Well, without making any recommendations...everyone has an opinion on tires, but it will depend on the type of riding you now do...I know I rode a little more on the edge when I was younger (= was pretty silly)...so I am a bit more sedate now and can get away with less expensive tires. Check out
www.denniskirk.com
as a distributor that handles most available brands and sizes. :)

Ok noone has a good answer. What size tires do you have on now? What type of wheels do you have? spokes or alloy wheels? Is there any bike on here that looks like yours? If so you can pm then if they even come on here any more or as much as I do. That should help us to help you!

Excellent site; thanks Patton, and thanks everyone else for the help!
I'll get some pics tonight, and get the sizes of the tires.

I just put new tread on my 77 650b1 (spoke wheels) and I increased the rear from the 110 that was on there to a 130. It was a rather drastic jump in size and I'm going to have to grind a notch out of my chain guard to avoid rubbing there, but it rides great. I'm running Cheng Shin Barracudas and so far love them. They're a sportier tire than most I've seen for the kz650 and give me a much better dip and carve than the standard street tires that were on it when I got it.

I've got a '78 KZ650 B2 and run a 3.25X19 Dunlop K-70 on the front and a Dunlop 4.25X18 K-81 on the rear. Currently have about 8K on this set of tires and will be looking to replace the rear around the end of summer.
These can be had from Dennis Kirk or from Tires Unlimited and probably from a lot of other places, as well.
