Shaft drive leak
21 Feb 2007 15:12
WTF causes the final drive to leak gear oil when the bike is setting in my garage on the centerstand ??? I had the ass end of the bike apart because I had to pull the swing arm to work on the front bevel gear when I put the bike back together it's dripping gear oil now .

I've heard of this several times. It's the front seal leaking and the oil's running through the swingarm to the back end and dripping from the drain. Are you sure it's gear oil? What does it smell like?

Well, of course there are two seals on the pumpkin. They can go out.
If you've been hearing any increased whining coming from the rear end it's likely caused by a worn pinion bearing which lets the pinion move enough to ruin the seal.
