Rear Master Re-build, KZ650
21 Feb 2007 05:56
OK, so I've got a source for the piston on the rear master which appears to be the critical replacement part. Has anyone ever taken these rear masters down to the point that they can get the spring and primary cup (parts 7 and 8 below) out? What is the function/purpose of bolt 6? is it necessary to remove bolt 6 to replace the spring and primary cup? Thanks!

Bump. Someone's gotta have experience with these rear masters. Can Jeff Saunders help?

At the risk of being a pest, maybe I can suggest another route for assistance.
Does anyone out there have the factory service manual for my 1978 KZ650 C2? If so, I'd appreciate contact through a PM to discuss the procedure for disassembling this rear master cyl.
Thanks to the more than 80 views of this thread. Somone's GOTTA know what's up with this rear master.

now i took mine apart sometime ago, and i have little to no clue how it goes back together, but as i recall you have to pull clip 11 (which i couldent see hidden under gunk) and everything comes apart.
i know i did it, i know all the rubber bits in mine were gone, and the paint was ruined...but i never found a rebuild kit and have kinda forgotten about it while i think about making it move on its own (otherwise who needs brakes?)

1977 kz650 c1
bought it because I was told it would never run again...I like to prove people wrong.

Thanks for the reply guys.
Should've been clearer in my original post.
I have removed Clip 11, which results in the piston (#9) falling out. HOWEVER, parts # 7 & 8 still remain, i.e. they don't come sliding out. I'm afraid to start poking and prodding for fear of damage and if I DO decide to replace them (they are available, as are many of the parts for this master), I'm wondering how to do it.
This is why I asked about bolt #6.
I may be getting too far ahead of myself, but brakes is where I am in this project.
Thanks.

A little air pressure through hole where banjo fits should blow out the primary cup and the spring should drop out behind it.

Right, thanks! I'll give that a shot. Always a bit leery just pulling things apart....
