Ape Hangers

I'm considering putting large ape hangers on my 83' kz750ltd. I would appreciate any installation / troubleshooting advice. Thanks.

Make sure you have a height that's comfortable, make sure they're the right diameter, make sure your grips and controls are gonna go on okay, make sure they're knurled.

And it's a good idea to know what's legal and what's not, and what's the attitude of your local cops.

It's a PITA changing bars.
You'll need longer electrical and mechanical cables and a longer brake line.

If your controls are set up with pins that fit in holes in the bars to keep them from twisting, you might want to replicate these on your new bars before installing. Much easier to get onto the drill press if they are not mounted on the bike

I'm going the opposite way and need shorter.
You can see on the hondazaki how they are all bunched up.

clutch and throttle cables are not tolerant of the extra curves.

Too each their own, but after riding a buddies bike this past summer, all I know is ape-hangers seem like a quick trip to the hospital. NO steering leverage, awkward (for me anyways), just didnt feel safe at all.
And like Dan said....whats legal as far as height and spread go. Good luck.

There are 10" over length cables on eBay all the time. I bought a set a couple years ago by mistake bwhahaha Get a set and then get handy with a soldering iron to lengthen your wires.

Ape Hangers work great if the handle bars are just below your shoulder height. You feel it in your shoulder muscles instead of your fore arms as you stear.

Your seating position changes alot. You sit up straight and don't kink your back.

However, you loose alot of the "Racer/Lean over the tank" positon that puts weight on the front wheel when you pop the clutch.

Ape Hangers are definately for a laid back riding style, not a dive into the corner and then change your mind riding style.

Dont torture a kawasaki sell it and buy a Harley.
