Z-1R Aluminum Swingarm was created by smokymountainvintage
I'm new to your sight and apoligize if this has been talked about 100 times but I'm looking for a bolt-up or next best thing aluminum swingarm for a 78 Z-1R. Would like to stay with the stock shocks, wheel and tire. I would also like to stay with stock length. Any help as to what will work is appreciated.

I dunno about the Z-1R....but lotsa folks here grab up swingarms off of Suzuki GS 1000-1100 for most of the rest of the larger kz series. Usually gotts make some spacers, but nothing REAL bad I dont think. Try a quickie search in the archives for some tips.

Good luck and welcome to the site....now we demand pictures!!!!!!!!

welcome to z-jungleB) early 80s gs1100e suzuki is a popular setup but they are getting harder to find, they are about 1-1/2" over stock.why are you looking for a stock length arm?if you are just looking for better handling a good set of shocks makes a world of differance, one disadvantage of the suzuki swingarm is that you need to run suzuki style shocks with it;)

You can use an aluminum swingarm from the early GS's and Katanas. For the big KZ (900/1000) you can use your spacers since they both use the 20mm axle. However you will need Suzuki or early Honda shocks as the GS uses a "CLevis" type shock versus the "Eye" mount on the KZ. Secondly if you want to get more modern you can bolt up a ZRX swingarm once again with minimal mods, but will need the axle and eccentrics that go along with it.

Thanks for the replys on my question about the Z-1R aluminum swingarm. In answer to wireman I just like the look of a aluminum box type over the stock type. Any additional help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.Charlie
