Grade of....

The bolt on the 650 exhaust. I was appearantly trying to get the nut on the bolt with a little bit of the bolt sticking out from theflange and I stripped the end of it. But I am just gonna get another nut to put on and cut of the stripped part off the bolt. So what would be the grade of the nut actually?

But its a 10mm. I want to get the bike back up and running. I had leaking carbs from the floatbowls and the bike would only run on choke for awhile and there was that noise from my exhaust leak, Couldn't even hear my cams to hear for lubrication. Sounded like a lawnmower.

you go by the thread size when buying nuts and bolts.the older z1 900s had 5mm studs and kzs went to 8mm im pretty sure;)

If the head of the nut takes a 10mm wrench, it's a 6mm nut; you might take another nut off another flange and take it with you to the hardware store, and find a bolt that fits it so you can match it up with a new nut.

Thinking about your original question, I don't think the nuts are hardened or anything, but you might want to pick up a die at the hardware store to try to fix the end of the stud, instead of cutting it, because you are liable to have flash on the end of it that will be just as bad as what you have now.

It was a 8.8mm guys, Thanks Wireman! You narrowed down the search for me, but I carried a nut with me and threaded it on a bolt to check.

8.8mm??
Vas ist das?
I'm just a good old SAE boy, struggling with finally getting around to learning the sizing and thread pitch systems of metric stuff, and to date, I haven't run into that one.

Sounds like the grade, not the size, to me...

Was there an 'M number' on the bin?
