Where to buy BEARINGS?

Where to buy BEARINGS? was created by Nelson
I'm fitting an enkei front wheel from a 82 gpz1100 on my 78kz1000. I need a different size of bearings and seals. I'm sure I can get bearings at a local bearing house, but what about seals? No idea what model bike might have the right size, so I need to order seals based on the dimensions I provide.

FYI - this is cause I'm using the thicker axle from the old bike and the new wheel used a thinner axle.

SO - anyone know where I can order seals by dimension?

OR - maybe a list of dimensions of seals and bearings from other bikes. Then I could order a bearing and seal kit by model.

thanks

I have not used this place but they have a huge amount of seals, I don't know if you need to order a minimum amount, which may be your downfall on something custom. Do you know your seal dimensions?

Why not go with sealed bearings?
You can also buy seals from most bearing dealers.
NTN, SK, Timken, ...
If you look in your local phonebook under bearings, there should be an 800 number to a regional dealer. They'll sell you what you need over the phone. You can order through NAPA but unless you kow the old guy is still working there it's est to bring in a mess of acceptable part numbers. Your local tractor parts store is the best bet for knowledgeable help.

You might try this link:

smp.applied.com/

to locate a dealer near you. They may have a seal that will work for you by dimension, but make sure you do NOT say it is for ANYTHING to do with a motorcycle application. You will provoke a deer in the headlights reaction, just before they tell you they can't help you.

THanks for the tips. EPM looks good. I never thought of a tractor place, there's one close by. I'll ask them.

yes, I'm planning to use sealed bearings, but the hub just looks wrong without the external seal as well. And OEM setups usually use both.

78 KZ1000 has a 20mm rear axle, and so does the 83 GPz1100, are you sure that the axle on the new wheel is smaller, and if it is, are you sure it's off a 1100?

The 81-82 GPz1100's might have used a smaller axle than the 83's, I am not real familiar with the 81's and 82's.

I'm swapping the Front wheel now, not the rear. (that'll be another post later :)

Well, the saga continues... Silly me to think a bearing house would have what I need. I want 17mm ID, 42mm OD. Noone seems to make this size.
I've looked up Applied and some other sites.
tried local brng house, parts stores, etc. I may
have to use the smaller axle that goes with the
new wheel. This would work, but I'd have to get
some custom sleeves made. The collars (nuts) on
the ends of axle are a smaller OD and the fork
leg clamps are too big for them. Also need
sleeve for the old speedo drive - new one is
electronic. buying bearings would be so much
easier!

ideas?
thanks

I know I sound like a broken record, but have you checked with Jeff Saunders?

When you asked your bearing place, did you ask them for electric motor bearings? That is what they will know them as...

Check, for bearings and seals, or sealed bearings, with your local bearing buisness. I am always amazed whet these guys have or can get. The prices are usually always better than web shops or MC dealerships.

Looks to be a bit of an odd size.
If the wheels original application was for a larger axle, why not bush your 17mm axle up to the original size?
