KZ650 vs. KZ750 wheel swap
26 Jan 2007 18:37
I see some 79 650 Custom mag wheels on fleabay. The sizes match the stock sizes of the spokers on my 79 750 twin. Brake configuration is the same (Single disc, front and rear). Checking the parts diagrams on the Kawasaki site, the front wheel is a slam dunk (even the axle is the same!) The rear looks to be a bit more challenging, as they list two different axles (33mm and 39mm) for the 650, and I am not sure what my 750 is.
Anyone done this, or something similar? Am I in for a tough road if I try it?

The 650 rear axle is not 33mm or 39mm, 17mm would be closer (might be 18mm I don't remember). The 76-80 750 twin rear axle is 20mm.
I bought an 80 750 twin that had a 650 mag wheel on the rear, someone used the 650 axle/spacers/cush hub, to install the 650 wheel.
I installed 750 wheels on it before I ever rode it, so I don't have a clue as to how well it worked with the 650 wheel.
KZ1000 wheel is a bolt on.

My mistake for trying to remember what I read earlier this afternoon! It is the rear axle collar that is listed twice on the Kawa site, once at 33mm and again at 39mm.
KZ1000, eh?
