Might want to check under CLASSIFIED where 2 pair of Progressive shocks are currently listed.

Another thought: Check e-bay for a pair of 13.5" Harley Sportster shocks. You can get a good deal ($30 or so) on a pair of new take-offs. ('cause, you know, lowering the rear of a Hardley makes them go much faster and handle like a sport bike. Allso makes 'em look bitchin-badass)

Thanks guys. I have been spending so much money on this project that I am just trying to get by on a couple of things, untill I think the my wonderful wife won't notice me spending more. The project is really comming together. Everything that I had rechromed and powdercoated is here waiting. I guess I had better go heat up the shop and get to work.

This is not exactly a "paint shock " reply but is shock related. I have looked several times on ebay for Sporty take-offs so I can lower my KZ. I want to lower about 1& 1/2 inches so my short legs will be flat footed as possible. I THINK if I get 11-12 inch ones it will work if anyone comes across something like that give me a yell.

Off the showroom floor, the 1976 KZ900 LTD was equipped with Boge Mulholland shock absorbers, type LT-13110, used with 2.0 kg-per-mm (110 ppi) straight-wound springs (black in color). If oil leakage appeared, the seals could be replaced with Suspension Rebuilding Kit Part No. K45014-201.

Naiveté in grownups is often charming, but when coupled with vanity, it is indistinguishable from stupidity.

Did ever think that maybe you've been doing it wrong all these years?

I don't remember seeing your other posts... I'll watch more carefully.
Your shocks are Mulhollands, and were originally finished in black with a chrome adjustment ring at the bottom. I think you can just rattle can paint them black again, if you want the original look.
 Folks: I am new to the forum. Other than my intro a month ago, this is my second post. I have received zero response on both posts. Am I doing something wrong? Taboo topics? I am stumped.

Post edited by: 76LTD, at: 2007/01/27 08:04

ltdrider: You did welcome me heartily. That was great. I had posted a couple of other posts, one on break lines and this thread on painting shock springs. I am eating my whining words now. The response to this thread, once it got started, has been super. You folks rock!!! It has been a good discussion of the question.
I am surprised that no one gave me a hard time about the shoe goo though.

LOL! That almost looks like my KZ1000 when I got it. It had been painted yellow, shocks and all. Except the shocks' yellow didn't match the body's yellow. :S It looked awful.
I took one of the shocks apart and repainted it black. It was a real PITA to get apart without injuring myself. I ended up using a U-Bolt through the mount hole to "push" the spring down with the U-bolt bar until I could remove the retainer clip. The darn bar kept slipping out. All I can say is that I'm lucky I still have all my fingers intact.
I've been holding off on doing the second shock. I'll get around to it eventually, but not until I've finished the engine work. I'm not looking forward to it. I might just get some used ones on EBay.
