Nuts and bolts... was created by whizzer
Hi folks;
Quick question for anyone who's done any rebuilding work on their bikes (and that's probably most of us!) What kind of nuts and bolts should I ask for for the important stuff? I've bought nut/bolt assortments in the past and they were RUBBISH! The bolts shear and the nuts get mashed up by tools.

The original Kawasaki ones were great, you felt like you could put your whole weight on them and they'd laugh it off. I'm talking about the ones that hold the engine in, the brakes on, all the really heavy-duty stuff. Are these hardened? High-tensile? Carbon? I really want to replace a lot of them them but I don't know what to ask for or where to get them!

I'm after bodywork grommets too, anyone know where I can score those?

Thanks!

There has to be a UK source afterall triumph still makes their bikes on that side of the pond. For enginew mounts etc a grade 5 bolt will do. For brake caliper mounts you need grade 8 bolts.

Don't use hardware store stuff its usually not up to the task.

Triumph do indeed make a bike or two here. I used to live quite near their factory in Hinckley.

Funny, really. I just posted this message a couple of days ago amd just this morning I was going to get some lunch and I drove past a "Tool and Fixing Specialist" about five minutes from where I work.

Samwell's right, I've bought some rotten rubbish from hardware stores but these guys have all kinds of good stuff! 8.8 shank bolts, hardened allen bolts, chromed acorn and locking nuts! It reads lie a Who's Who of the nut and bolt world. Nut porn. Anyway, it's on the Horley road next to the big BMW dealer, about 3 miles north of Gatwick airport if anyone's interested. Cheers guys!

I've got a place like that down the road from where I work... I LOVE it...I could spend an hour in there just looking at all the little bits and pieces in there, to see what I could replace on my bike :)

It's awesome..
