Does anyone know if a KZ900 front wheel from a 1977 will bolt right up on a 1976?

yep,you can use same rotor also 78 will also fit;)

How about 1979 KZs? Will they interchange? The rear took some work, and I haven't done the front yet.

79s and 80s had mags,if you get all the spacers to go with it should also work;)

Not all 1979s came with mags...in fact, I'm replacing spokers with mags, to lower the ass end (front is just to match the rear)...the replacement wheels came whole and intact, with crappy tires, so I guess I'm good to go (with new tires, of course)...

I love these trick questions.
Temples, Kaw didn't make a KZ900 in 1977. If your wheel is from '77, then it's likely from a KZ1000.

yes that is a trick quesion there are some early 77 900s floating around out ,ive seen a couple of them;)
