can i change fork oil through the air caps? was created by dustinleavitt
i have a 93 kz1000 police, and it pogosticking, so I want to change to a thicker fork oil, but my center stand is broken So im afraid ill have trouble getting the fork caps off, so i am wondering if i can just pull the valve stem core and use a hose to add the oil through it. would this work?

I doubt that you need thicker fork oil, it's likely that the forks are empty or damaged. Assuming that you are able to drain the forks you could probably fill em up through the air fitting.

Good Luck

the reason i want thicker oil is to accomodate for the fact i was 300 + pounds and usually carry baggage, and the bike feels really loaded down all the time,

but does anyone see a reason why i need to remove the fort caps, rather than just pulling the valve cores and using a funnel and a piece of vacuum tubing?

i guess anything is possible but its an awfully small target to aim for.ive had pretty decent luck with 30w synthetic oil myself;)

when i worked at the H-D shop. to get the fork oil in the baggers, we would hook up a vacuum brake bleeder to the air valves with the cores removed. then stick a small hose in the drain hole and suck the new oil in. worked slick as snot. hints, put the drain screw back in before you remove the vacuum. the whole job took about ten minutes.

i am planning on using a funnel, with a tube on it, and simply slipping the tube over the brass air fitting. and just typing it up there and letting it drip in for as long as it takes.

also does anyone know if they make a cheap set of progressive springs for this bike or if its worth it? i mean if I am going to go that far into it I might as well drop em in.
