Let me word this better, There is a steering lock on my bike, I don't have the key for it but it is unlocked, will it affect anything while I am removing the front end to install tapered bearings?

If you are speaking of (on mine) under the left side, a key place? It is a fork lock. On mine you rotate the forks to the right , put the key in, push and turn.Remove key. Forks are locked in position. To the right.Does that sound like what you are talking about?
