Front Forks Z1,Z1A and Z1B ???

Gday, I have a Z1A and need some front forks, there is a set of Z1b's on Ebay. I know that there is a difference, from the 73 to the 75, but are the 74 and 75 the same. Something to do with lugs and no lugs ????. Thanks as I want it 100% correct. Gum

The very early production model Z-1's had fork legs that can be easily distinguished from the later models. The mounting lugs for the front fender protrude out more and do not blend in as smoothly as the later model fork legs. Later model legs look mostly the same to me, but there was another casting change made for the Z-1B (I think), that added more material behind the reflector mounting area. This cannot be seen with the reflector mounted. Hopefully, someone will come along with some production numbers to go along with some of these changes.

All the fork units will interchange between the 73-75 Z1's

The primary cosmetic difference was with the forks lowers for the early Z1's - the casting at the fender mount was more pronounced.

Internally there are differences. The early Z1 fork damper units were lighter duty, the very top part was hollow and tended to break during removal (esp. if you used the factory tool).

check out bike bandit. You can look up each model year and look at the pics and compare part #'s.Some of the differances will be single or dual brake mounts on 77 and latter.

If you are interested, improve damping on the '73-'75 Z1-900 forks by installing '76 KZ900 damper rods and better, non-stock fork springs.
