Steering lock

I have a steering lock on my bike and its turnable like its working, but when I try to lock it it doesn't lock. This is what I do.... I put in the key and turn the key, then I turn the steering to feel for some kind of engagement and when I think that I have turned the bike enough without the steering bending or breaking my key, I turn the key back to its original insert position and the steering doesnt lock. My other friend with his Vulcan 500 did his for the first time since I told him it was there, and he got his to lock. I plan on just getting a pair of those handcuffs for bikes , but I want this thing to work

try this,,,spray some wd-40 into the lock and keep working it. the tumbler has to push in so it will lock. just the key turning back and forth wont lock it. do the rest as you were doing it

No worries of it locking by accident. On the KZ/LTD's you have to find the spot turn the key push it in then turn it back and remove the key.

On mine you turn the handlebars to the right. Insert the key and push, then turn. You may have to move the handle bars back and forth just a little to find the spot. When I ride mine to the fire station I usually park inside the bay and lock the handle bars to prevent mischief from my fellow firefighters. Like coming out and it being parked around the corner or who knows where. Lubed mine with some "Zoom" turbine oil. With the patented "Telescoping Spout"! LOL

I'm wondering if some of us aren't speaking of two different things. I BELIEVE on kzwolfsr's bike ( a kz650SR) similiar to mine what he is referring to is the fork lock. Located down low on the tripple tree on the left side. It is meant to lock the forks in position.I don't THINK he is referring to locking at the ignition. Am I right kzwolfsr? Or cornfused?:)

Couldn't be any more right than I am. Thanks Pumps! Just the info I needed, I only used to put in the key and turn it, but it didn't do anything, Now I know to push it too!
